Station Dysthymia - Overhead, Without Any Fuss, The Stars Were Going Out
The long awaited full length album from Siberian Funeral Doom Metal band Station Dysthymia rises this conservative genre to a higher level. Inheriting the album name from the «The Nine Billion Names of God» by Arthur C. Clarke this unpredictable album crafted in traditions of Funeral Doom enters the area of science fiction combining musical genre with fictional scientific theories. This is the band’s vision of the story of the World’s end: solid guitar sound combined with growl in different emotional tones draw the senses of mankind fallen into apathy and drifting towards self-destruction. The dark soundscapes were created with help of Greg Chandler from Esoteric who performed mastering at his studio in the UK.

Stroszek - Sound Graveyard Bound
Stroszek is often described by its front man as "old music for old people" but could also be described as melancholic acoustic rock with influences from American folk music and (real) country music. However, interlaced among the sombre mood and melancholy, there are also uplifting guitar solos, intricate and powerful guitar work, and a truly relaxing atmosphere. Combining a bleak depression with absolutely beautiful melodies to drift away to, Stroszek is a project to enjoy during moments of introspection and quiet evenings.

Stroszek - Songs of Remorse digipak
With carefully strummed minor key acoustic guitars, deliberate yet restrained piano lines, bursts of heaviness added for texture and deep, lush clean sung vocals that relay a sense of dread lurking beneath the surface, "songs of remorse" is perhaps at once one of the most melancholic yet accessible albums of 2007. "Your own life failures made music." Members of Frostmoon Eclipse.

Stroszek returns with their second opus, the follow-up to 'Songs of Remorse', with the aplty titled 'Life Failures Made Music'; and with song titles like 'The Unlucky Ones', 'Gone by the Fall', & 'Land of Silence and Darkness' its no secret that this album is filled with crushing sadness. Take equal parts Neo-Folk, the fatalist mentality of Black Metal, the darkness of older Alice in Chains, the beautiful acoustics of latter-day Antimatter and the painfully soft, whispered vocals of Tom Waits and it is easy to see precisely why this crushing sadness is what makes this record so damn special.

A Transylvanian Funeral - The Outsider
“The Outsider” is the second full-length offering from A Transylvanian Funeral, a US solo project conceived by Sleepwalker. Scathing Black Metal and esoteric lyrics intertwine with tranquil melodies and elements of Death and Doom Metal which give this album a foreboding, eerie, almost ethereal atmosphere. Tracks change from frantic howling, face-shredding riffs and blasting drums to somber and brooding (yet beautiful) melodies in a heartbeat, such as the title-track which starts with a cacophony of blast-beats, guitars and throat-splitting vocals then all of a sudden dives into a slow piano piece before continuing the mayhem. Underdark - I am above all
From the land of Ukraina nears forth Underdark. Satanic Black Metal under the semblance of Amorth, well known Ukrainian drummer for many of the country’s finest projects alive these days, such as Drudkh, Astrofaes, and others.  “I am above all” displays the side of Amorth’s musicianship that has never been crossed before with past projects.  Definitely a must for an individual who wishes to explore one of the strongest, yet majestic soundscapes in Slavonic Black Metal history.  A vigor of expression, known as Underdark.

Underdark - Who is your Master?
This album is a conceptual ambient landscape flavored with intelligent dance/downtempo or even noise elements. Spoken samples from avant-garde films such as "Stalker", "Dust", and "Four" have been used on the album. They make it unique in many aspects, turning the album into an easy and transparent narration-journey through the basements of consciousness and other digital woods of a depressive being. Surely, "Who is your Master?" is an album that musically contrasts with the previous works of Underdark but does not contradict the ideological message of each release thus far. This time it is just passed in an allegorical form using selected samples.

Vaka - Kappa Delta Phi
Epic and heavy doom rock with a slightly progressive twist from Sweden. With inventive drumming and heavy use of piano, this is a fresh take on the post-metal style that has quickly become overrun by Isis and Pelican clones. On this album, main man Karl Daniel Liden is joined by an array of guest musicians from around the world to make this a highly collaborative venture. Mastered by John Golden, who has done mastering for such bands as the Melvins, Neurosis, Weedeater, and Primus. This should appeal to fans of bands like Isis, Mare, Opeth, and the like.

Vancouver - The Moment
VANCOUVER should rather feel comfortable in the niche of Metal that is occupied by praised formations such as CULT OF LUNA or ISIS.  Even after numerous spins it is still hard to find a description for this style, as the ingredients range from Doom Metal to Hardcore to Stoner Rock and are brewed into a boiling soup.  Despite the slow basic tempo of the single songs, VANCOUVER amazingly know how to build up brutish pressure and toss the listener through the room. Only in the closing track “The Portrait” singer Michael and his brave comrades leave the sledgehammer outside and walk musical paths that seem similar to those of RADIOHEAD.  A great finale, and perfectly suitable contrast, to the eight preceding tracks which present the listener with an emotional rollercoaster ride.

Vanhelgd – Temple of Phobos
While still firmly locked into that unmistakable VANHELGD sound, it is clear that on "Temple Of Phobos" they have steered into a much more despondent territory; very reminiscent of the early Nineties Doom. VANHELGD have managed to capture the essence and vibe with such perfection on "Temple Of Phobos" that perhaps this will go down in VANHELGD's history as one of their heaviest, gloomiest and blackest record ever.

Velnias - Sovereign Nocturnal
Sovereign Nocturnal, the bands debut album is miles ahead of their 2007 demo “Pacing the Cyclic Nether” in terms of maturity, song craft & production. With the three songs combining for a total running time of 41 minutes & 15 seconds the emphasis has been laid upon a musical foundation of progressive yet feral riffs intertwining with delicate passages that only make the heavier parts that much more potent, not unlike early Opeth & Agalloch! Combined with lyrical content based upon the premise that the human race is insignificant compared to the grand power and prestige of nature this is a debut album that should not be dismissed!

Veneficum - Enigma Prognosis
Veneficum focus on more philosophic and scientific issues while keeping its musical roots in symphonic blackness. Not as visually colorful as Limbonic Art or early Arcturus, Veneficum's key work accents their Black Metal attack rather than gliding it along the astral plane. Veneficum set down a core sound of Black Metal that is basically Eurocentric, yet with their lyrics and visuals are able to successfully set them apart as an individual band with a unique perspective.

Void Omnia - Dying Light
Void Omnia is, in terms of atmosphere, one of those bands that I like to call the “third path“. I am talking about those acts which although are diligent students of both classic diabolical Scandinavian sound and the naturalistic US and Canadian black metal, their own atmosphere is not built with eerie, naked 90’s riffs nor with ambient and natural sound themes. It's rather based on well-written and well-played guitar riffs that create a sense of melancholic paranoia, a constant state of emotional over-stimulation. - reckoning hour
